Ken Howell

In the multiple areas I teach, some common themes are creative thinking, iterative design, and the importance of dynamic process. These are also core values of my art practice. Art and teaching, for me, are deeply connected.

Just before the pandemic, I finished building an art studio in my garage.  Little did I know it would also become a home office, and that I would be spending a lot of time there. After 25 years, however, of focusing almost exclusively on digital arts and interaction design, I wanted a place to bring back into my life an old love, painting. More specifically I wanted to explore the relationship between the expressive power of abstraction and the illustrative and narrative possibilities of collage.

This work in no small measure has helped me cope with this tumultuous year and I am grateful to have had this outlet. Here is a sampling of stops along the way. More can be found on instagram @kenhowellart
