As we all know, conferences and workshops scheduled last year after March 2020 were either cancelled or reimagined for the virtual space. I originally planned to use my professional development funds for a trip to Dublin with the CLT group on place-based and experiential learning. After that was cancelled, I signed up for a virtual workshop at Anderson Ranch (located in Aspen, Colorado) called, “Making the Personal Resonant” with photographer, Betsy Schneider. I would never have done this workshop had it not been remote and had COVID not have disrupted my plans.

As someone who works and teaches in the “emergent media” space, I often experience internalized pressure to make work that centers technology and either interaction or generativity. The workshop, which focused on digital fine art photography, allowed me to reconnect with my first love, the photographic image. I was able to recenter my artistic practice around the act of making photographs. These are an assortment of images all made during the week of June 22-26, 2020.
