Between March 2020 and March 2021 I produced 12 short videos incorporating original music and lyrics.
Creating these pieces allowed me to process and express my experiences of many of the singular events of those twelve months.
With limited access to equipment during the pandemic I focused on being productive each week with the tools at my disposal.
Selections from this work appeared in online streaming events LinoKinoTV (curated by Lino Kino for Automat Gallery, Philadelphia PA), Highlight (presented by Signal Kitchen and Burlington City Arts) and 15 Minutes of Fame (Champlain College showcase organized by Jim Ellefson and John Rasmussen).
In tandem with the production work I also researched the history of puppets and stop-motion animation in film with an emphasis on the uncanny effects produced when we see an inanimate object appear to come to life.
I am currently applying the lessons I learned—about visual storytelling, materials, the use of objects in performance and film, light, videography and editing—to a short film loosely based on Shakespeare’s The Tempest in collaboration with Champlain Filmmaking faculty John Rasmussen.
