Over the past year, I have learned being resilient and thinking strategically are the key to long-term business success. Also, the economic and health crisis while tragic, allowed me to tap into new ways of being creative and using new media for education and training purposes. Personally, I signed up for a course in my area of specialty that I have wanted to take, and I am committed to living my life according to my goals which I gained clarity due to this challenging time. I love education, working with students of all ages, and using my voice to change the experience for women and underserved communities in the financial services industry and business world.
As a keynote speaker and consultant for the financial services industry, the pandemic had a big impact on my business, especially during the initial shutdown. I quickly had to pivot from live events and national travel to all virtual events. This transition was not that difficult as I have taught online at various colleges and in my business for a while. But I did need to figure out strategically how to shift from live to virtual going forward as I knew this would last longer than a few months. Here is what I did.
- Created a new online learning lab for women in business, with a focus on the psychology of negotiating. I have always wanted to add this to my offerings, and I finally had time to do so. It is called the Breaking Money Silence® Learning Lab and is a work in progress. But I have created three courses – one free. See links below.
- Secured sponsorship for my Breaking Money Silence® Podcast. This helped cover the costs of recording (now at home) and allowed me to meet new people and expand the number of episodes I offer in one year. I love podcasting and this has been a nice continuation of the work I love. Celebrated episode 100 during the pandemic!
- Redesigned my websites. Part of being successful in the virtual space is interacting and being approachable in your social media and web presence. For a variety of reasons I was able to redesign my website for KBK Wealth Connection (Launch 4/20/2021) and feel better about how I am presenting my offerings to the both financial professionals and women in business.
- Virtual keynotes, webinars, and client events. Happy to report these are back in full swing. I added a Champlain Online course to this list last fall – so this is a pivot as well!
